Stat Day! Stat Day!

by admin on June 30, 2010

It’s the last day of the month. And in my little blogging world, that’s always exciting. Why? I get to analyze my stats! Woohoo!

Yes, as most small-time bloggers like myself will attest to, looking over your stats is exhilarating. You find out how many people visited your blog. How many were first time visitors? How many were from certain countries? Which pages were most popular?

But by far my favorite part of my stats is the keyword finder. This tells me what phrases people typed into a search engine, then clicked on my site in the links. Looking over these phrases and imagining the people who typed them–their mindset when they were searching, and if they found what they were looking for on my site—is one of my favorite things about blogging.

My most frequent phrase this month was “light mountain hair color reviews.” A little surprising, but I’m tickled that my review may have helped someone chose a non-toxic hair color.

Next was “raw milk Abilene.” This just makes me ecstatic. Firstly because I’m pleased people in my area are looking for healthier alternatives to commercial milk. Secondly is the realization that I made information available to them about raw milk in this area that I couldn’t find when I was looking for it.

The phrase that made me laugh the most was “sheila single abilene.”

But the phrases that get me the most excited are phrases like this one from a few days ago: “obstetrician or midwife?” and “why am I seeing an obstetrician?” I feel such a glow inside when I imagine those women, sitting at their computer, struggling with the same thing I did when I was pregnant. And maybe, just maybe, after reading my blog post, they felt comforted. Maybe they felt like they weren’t alone anymore. Maybe it helped them make that all important decision to ignore their family and peers and use a midwife. I don’t know. But the possibility that my little blog might have helped someone brings me incredible joy.

So thanks to anyone out there who’s reading.
